Webcat - Library Online Catalog - FAQ

Webcat is Logue Library’s catalog.  Everything held at Logue Library is in the catalog and we are adding access electronic holdings daily . Here are some searching tips and FAQs.

Searching Tips

At the opening page you can search by title, author, subject, series, periodical title, word or phrase.

  • Title. When searching by title, the search ignores initial articles (a, an, the)
  • Author. You can search for an author by first name   last name OR last name, first name.
  • Searching by Word or Phrase looks for your terms or names in all fields.
  • To broaden your search do not include punctuation in a title.
  • If you are uncertain of the spelling of a term, you can use the symbol ? to substitute the letter in question
  • You can use the $ as a wildcard to expand your search. For example, inclusi$ will find inclusion and inclusive education.

How Can I Search for a Particular Type of Material, like DVD or E-Book?

  • At the opening search screen find the box named TYPE in the lower half of the page.
  • Click the down arrow to see a list of various types of materials held in Logue Library.
  • Click on the item type that holds your interest.
  • Click the SEARCH button and your list will display.

Can I Search for Materials in Certain Rooms or Locations, like Brimmer Collection or the Web?

  • At the opening search screen find the box named LOCATION in the lower half of the page.
  • Click the down arrow to see a list of various rooms or locations in Logue Library.
  • Click the location that interests you.
  • Click the SEARCH button and your list will display.

How Will I Know if the Material Is Available?

  • The list of materials will display information concerning item availability.
  • If the item is available, the catalog will show its location in the library.
  • If the item is checked out, the catalog will show the item’s due date.

Can I Read Any Books Online?

  • Logue Library does subscribe to several ebook programs – NetLibrary, APA PsychBooks, SpringerLink, Oxford Reference, Humanities E-Books, Salem Press.
  • Several parts of the record will tell you it is online. The location will show WWW. The item type will be EBOOK. The letters URL will appear in the catalog record.
  • To access the online text, click the letters URL. To read it off-campus you need to login using your library barcode number or your CHC email username and password.

How Can I Find Out If I have Any Overdue Books Or Fines?

You can login to a feature of the online catalog called My Account to see the titles you have checked out along with due dates and fines.

How Do I Access the Information in My Account?

  • Near the top of catalog screen you will find the menu item named My Account.
  • After you click it, you will see a login screen. To login use your library barcode number and your last name.
  • You can select the Change PIN button to set your own password or PIN.
  • You can select the Review My Account button to see the items you have checked out.

How Can I Find Out About Reserve Materials for My Classes?

  • Near the top of the catalog screen, select the menu item, Reserve Desk.
  • At the next screen you can search by Instructor’s  Name, Course Name, or Course Number.

Do I Use the Online Catalog to Search for Articles?

  • To search for article titles use the link Find Article Titles found along the left side of any library web page. That will lead you to indexes like Ebsco, FirstSearch, PsychNet and more.
  • You can use the online catalog to see if Logue Library owns the journals that you found in citations from the indexes.
